Big Cats, Little Cats & Everything In Between

Cats shed.

Sometimes a lot.

We know this.

Even if you’re a cat lover, when the weather gets warmer and your half-feral housemate starts leaving a trail of hair, it is generally pretty obnoxious to feel like no matter how many times you sweep the floor or lint-roll your clothes you will never be free from what they’ve littered all over the house.

So, yes — we all know how annoying this shedding can be.

On a biological level, shedding is basically a response to not wanting to overheat. The cat’s physiology understands that if it keeps the thick coat it grew over the colder months, it will swelter under the weight of holding on to what no longer serves a purpose.

Because cats are highly instinctual creatures, they’re not spending time contemplating whether or not they should try to hold on to their hair. They’re not attached in that way, and so they do not try to fight the entirely natural and necessary process of releasing what they don’t need.

Why Am I Telling You This?

What a lesson for us — especially for the New Moon, Solar Eclipse and meteor shower occurring on August 12.

As this New Moon/Solar Eclipse in Leo occurs with the South Node, it is all about releasing whatever is in your way of standing in authenticity, and freely giving and receiving love.

Some will need to shed a layer (or 20) of the ego.
Some will need to release stories of grandeur and/or stories that keep them small.
Some will need to let go of past relationships.
Some will need to surrender to the reality of who they are rather than fighting through a performance of who they think they should be.

Whatever the shedding is, the Astrology of August 12 is an invitation to unburden ourselves of those attributes and beliefs keep us from shining our brightest light. The picture of the sky on this day tells us that by letting go of these blocks, we can tap into the huge potential to innovate powerful ways to live our values and desires (Uranus, Venus, Pluto grand trine for my astronerds).

So, in following the example set by lions and cats alike, let your instincts lead the way. Don’t overthink what needs to be released. Whatever words or images come to mind, offer them to this moment when the Sun is briefly covered by the moon only to be reborn with what feels like twice the light
